Good old Summer Camp! Where you never had to learn how to talk to a Neo-Liberal!
by Heather Martin
While the back to school flyers inundate my mailbox this week it is important to note that summer is far from over! My kids spent their summer largely doing nothing in particular, enjoying the outdoors, the Exhibition, some swimming at the pool and some camping. Camping with my teenagers this year involved us heading out to a site with bare minimum for services so we could actually hear the sounds of birds chirping and the deafening quiet you can only get when you’re out in the woods. It was great!
As a kid I thought summer camps were for those rich kids whose parents couldn’t tolerate two months of their children being at home (as they were too young to put to work, don’t you know…lol). I was never disappointed to not go to a summer camp because I had three weeks holidays out on the Shuswap which was way more fun and far less structured. I pitied the kids who had to go to camp…. my summers were infinitely more awesome I was sure! Needless to say I have great memories of my summers as a kid and don’t think I missed out on Summer Camp. Nor have my own children, in my opinion. Nowadays camps have evolved beyond simple entertainment or outdoor skill building. Today, camps have expanded into a means of ‘educating’ (I say indoctrinating) young people into the cult that has become ENVIRONMENTALISM. Sure they mix in a little horseback-riding and canoeing in for good measure, but mostly they are designed to teach young people (and not just the young kids… young adults too) the skills of protesting, resistance and how to handle that ever important interview with the media.
The idea that a summer camp would be used for anything other than the appreciation of nature, its freshness, fun and fragility and it’s need for protection through mutual respect is a disgusting and despicable thing. It makes me recall the indoctrination I received as a student in school when I was told that there was too much acid in the rain and that those Japanese and Norwegian bastards were killing all the whales (PTSD ALERT!!!… I’m not racist, but because of those images of hacked and bleeding whales, I sure could be!). I am being sarcastic of course, but my above comment illustrates that as a young person who was traumatized by thoughts of nuclear bombs, the cold war, acid rain poisoning the planet and the endless numbers of birds and frogs choked to death with plastic six-pack rings… I was a Beta-tester of TPTB (The Powers That Be)’s plan for social engineering through guilt.
Unfortunately, the world didn’t grow out of it…..
My own children have come home numerous times over the span of their grade and high school ‘career’s’ to tell me through sob’s how the ‘packet’ they received in school was so graphic and horrible that it made several students cry. They recounted how they were shown in ENGLISH class ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ where again tears from many students flowed. It was blatant indoctrination, the kind that parents would be up in arms against if the teacher was showing the History Channels’ series; ‘THE BIBLE’.
The program has indeed been subtle, persistent and effective, and what it has yielded is a generation (dare I say two?) of young people who are ‘disappointed revolutionaries’… so angry at the state of the world and burdened with the sins of their parents that they can do nothing more than leap at a chance to do something ‘real’ about it. This is why camps are so effective, timely and popular… and why it is no surprise that like the grass-roots movements, they too have been co-opted with someone’s agenda.
Below is a sampling of some of the camps offered this summer in Canada that illustrate my point:
1. Fight Like a Girl Camp: For immigrant women – Pays $11 bucks an hour!!
It perhaps is no secret that immigrant women have the hardest time finding stable employment after arriving and becoming settled in Canada. In fact, many women come to this country as Doctors, Physiotherapists, Chemists, Physicists, etc.. who find themselves suddenly unable to do the kind of work they were employed in the country they came from. Most Provincial governments as well as the Federal Government have programs to assist immigrants in their transition into the workforce here. Often they must take low paying jobs as housekeepers, care aides, cashiers, stock clerks, etc… to make ends meet while they gain accreditation to resume their professions. The difficulties for young immigrant women with NO such professional education become even more difficult. Teens often lack experience needed to help get them a part or full-time job so training camp where they get paid to Fight Like A Girl seems like an attractive prospect. This camp is designed to train young immigrant women to become ‘youth organizers’ of campaigns to oppose racism, violence and how to work with the media. The camp is sponsored by the Newcomer Womens Services of Toronto.
2. Student Strike Camp – show your solidarity even though it has nothing to do with you…
It amazes me how young people somehow flock to the idea of communist/collectivist activities and are mind-melded with Labor Unions through their own Students Unions as if they’re supposed to care that the Postal Workers are getting a raw deal in their contract negotiations. However, belonging to a Student’s Union (and being REALLY, REALLY, involved) can lead to the adoption of strong sentiments about social justice, workers rights and discrimination…. it is, after-all communist principles that labor unions are based upon and at the University of Toronto, you’ll not only earn your degree…you’ll learn how to Strike and ‘stick it to the institution’ you’re getting your education from!:
Centered at the University of Toronto on July 27th to 29th, the Ontario Student Strike Training Camp – through plenary discussions and workshops – shall engage participants in the topic of student strikes and other forms of grassroots organizing.
Additionally, the various participants from across the province shall discuss more generally student engagement and mobilization in their varied unions and campuses. With an eye towards the growth of direct democratic practice and healthy student organizations, the training provided through these events will both provoke discussion and supply students with the tools to create positive change.
3. University Subsidized Activist Camp
This brings me to the topic of ‘camps’ that are not just held on University campuses across Canada, but ones where the Universities either knowingly or unknowingly sponsor activist training.. From the Saskatchewan Council of International Co-Operation (SCIC)’s website:
What’s New With SCIC Youth?
Generating Momentum Activist Leadership Training Camp!
August 29-September 1
This camp is for young adults aged 18-29, it will be 3 full days of leadership training in the Qu’Appelle Valley. This will be an educational, skills-based, action-oriented event. The workshops and trainings could include:
- Justice, Anti-oppression and democracy
- Solidarity locally and internationally. Solutions locally and internationally
- Understanding and affecting power politics
- Social networking, volunteer recruitment, media and messaging
- Personal sustainability
- Strategic planning, event coordinating and project management
- Creative activism
- Building a movement, being a movement
This event will also allow participants to meet and network with a diverse group of people, and make new friends! Hiking, canoeing, music/ art jams, and other fun activities will be available for participants outside of workshop times!
The University of Saskatchewan actively promotes sustainability and encourages students to become involved in any of the organizations listed on their website.
I would be remiss if I didn’t add that Jeh Custer is the SCIC Youth Program Co-ordinator:

Phone: (306) 956-0622
By now you must be wondering why my intense interest in Jeh Custerra/Custer. I wrote a bit (ok, a lot) about Jeh in a previous article on my blog. It is not that I hate Jeh or oppose all the things that Jeh is fighting against. He is, however, a pivotal figure in social manipulation activities being undertaken by some pretty big players in politics, labor unions and the corporate elite. (It is ironic to me that the people who are most vehemently and violently opposed to the tyranny they fight against are puppets of those same tyrants)… Take Sierra Club, for example, if you think that it is a benevolent organization aimed at creating a better world, consider that it’s main financial support comes from the Rockefeller Fund. Before you argue the ‘philanthropy’ of the Rockefeller’s and their ‘fund’, consider the following compilation of quotes from this site:
“…conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure — one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.” —–David Rockefeller
“Between 1963 and 1965 more than 400, 000 Colombian women were sterilized in a program funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. In Bolivia, a U.S. imposed population control program administered by the Peace Corps sterilized Quechua Indian women without their knowledge or consent…(Akwesasne Notes, 1977: 31). In 1967 the American Public Health Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists conducted a study and found that 54 percent of the teaching hospitals nation-wide “…made sterilization a requirement for winning approval for an abortion” (Weisbord, 1975: 155).” A Look at the Indian Health Service Policy of Sterilization, 1972-1976 by Charles R. England
“One CFR published policy objective is substantial worldwide depopulation including half of the current U.S. population being targeted. This population reduction program is largely funded by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Merck Fund, both financially and administratively linked to the Merck pharmaceutical company–the world’s leading vaccine manufacturer……..Records show the Merck pharmaceutical company received a major share of the Nazi “flight capital” at the close of World War II when its president, George W. Merck, was America’s biological weapons industry director. These facts were revealed by Norman Covert, Army public relations director at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD, and veteran news correspondent Paul Manning in his book “Martin Bormann: Nazi in Exile” (Lyle Stuart, Inc, 1981). “—Dr Horowitz
“Rockefeller spent a great deal of money financing Nazi scientists and eugenic institutions in Germany, among them Otmar Freiherr von Vershuer. Vershuer was particularly interested in twins. With twins you could unlock the mysteries of defective reproduction, they thought, and also with twins you could discover the secret to multiplication of the master race. Vershuer sent his assistant, whose name was Joseph Mengele, into Auschwitz to finish the program originally financed by Rockefeller. But of course, Mengele went there after the war began……Rockefeller was funding the Nazi eugenicists throughout the entire pre-war period. Rockefeller was receiving constant letters of protest because of its open involvement with Nazi medicine……When lawyers and other entities tried to stop me from seeing the records, they even claimed doctor-patient confidentiality for Joseph Mengele!” The haunted house of eugenics
“The Rockefeller Foundation was the major funding source for Kinsey, even though it had ample, repeated warning from noted statisticians and social scientists that Kinsey’s pseudo-science was a hoax. The Rockefeller Foundation began funding Kinsey in 1941, mostly by grants funneled through the National Research Council, but it also funded Kinsey directly.
In the early 1950s, when the Reece Committee of Congress exposed Rockefeller grants in support of Communism and socialism, and started going after the Foundation’s funding of Kinsey’s sex research, the Rockefeller people backed off from funding Kinsey. Besides, he had already done his work for them. The next step was to apply Kinsey — to the law, education, etc. — so Rockefeller funding shifted over to the Kinsey-allied American Law Institute and SIECUS [Sex Information and Education Council of the United States]. The Ford Foundation and others have also funded Kinsey. Let me read to you here from the Kinsey Institute’s Spring 1998 Kinsey Today newsletter, which reports that the Institute has received a Ford Foundation grant to “fund a media relations firm in planning a pro-active strategy to counter the on-going campaign to shut down the Kinsey Institute and discredit its character.” Fighting the Kinsey Fraud: Interview with Dr. Judith Reisman
Also, note Rockefeller’s speech featured in the video below portrays some stark realities, that human growth cannot be sustained so population control (and therefore) reduction are the means to preserving our planet. Here, Rockefeller’s message is that the planet is of a higher order than humans and is asking the United Nations to be the instrument for controlling population growth:
So when I discover that Jeh Custer/Custerra (currently of Sierra Club and collaborator with Polaris Institute’s Joe Cressy) is also the SCIC Youth Program co-ordinator for the above action camp and is involved in many other groups promoting activism/activism training and activities that promote social re-engineering through public protest, I believe he deserves a lot more attention.
SCIC Mission Statement
The Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation is a coalition of organizations involved in international development and committed to the recognition of the dignity of all people and their right to self-determination, to the protection of the world’s fragile environment, and to the promotion of global understanding, cooperation, peace and justice.
What is important to note is the word ‘coalition’ and to ask yourself which organizations are part of that coalition? Ever heard of PRIG’s, the Saskatchewan Federation of Labor and Idle No More?
Lets start with the Public Research Interest Groups (also known as PRIG’s)… originally created in the United States, however, PRIG’s have gained momentum in Canada under the banner of PRIG.ca (which has a blatantly obvious ‘Anarchist/Socialist’ message when you see the following quote and Anarchist symbol on their website).
“You don’t have to be Karl Marx to know that’s a bum fucking deal for the rest of the world” – (A. Hoffman “Wake Up America!”)
On the surface, Saskatchewan’s PRIG (Regina PRIG) is soft and fuzzy on its surface and features images of people holding zucchini’s… sitting in lecture theatres watching powerpoint presentations, etc… Pretty benign stuff, but the common thread of social justice, women’s rights, and how to be an activist are the teeth that lie within the heart of PRIG operations. Their site features another interesting ‘camp’ that offers ‘sessions’ by Jeh Custerra, Prescilla Settee, and others:
Some of the skills learned at the Generating Momentum training camp this year will be:
-Learn how to ‘debate’ Neo-Liberals (or as it’s also called… ‘Shit Neo-Liberals Say‘ and other fun activities)
-Organizing and Activism
–Corporate Globalization & Democracy
-Anti-Opression Training (A & B)
-Tactic Planning and Issue Specific Tactic Planning
All this to be held at Camp Easter Seal at Manitou Beach in Saskatchewan, Aug 22-25th, 2013.
(Note: Prescilla Settee of the University of Saskatchewan/supporter of Idle No More will be speaking about Food Sovereignty).
It is important to realize that Jeh Custer and Prescilla Settee work quite closely with one another on various projects such as Activist Training Camps, speaking engagements and the like, and I found myself getting dizzy trying to keep up with all the projects they are working on together. In doing this research into PRIG’s I also came across an interesting connection: The Generating Momentum Camp is sponsored in part by the Saskatchewan Federation of Labor….Are you surprised to see links to an Activist Training Program and for Idle No More/#SOVSUMMER?
Some screenshots from the SFL webpage:
Is it a co-incidence that both Jeh and Prescilla have been featured on a U of S TEDx Talk in 2012? It begs the question: Has Prescilla taken Jeh on as an apprentice of sorts?
This past week Jeh attended an Activist training camp in Chiapas, Mexico where he will have learned some new methods for his job in ‘resistance’ training of new young activist recruits. The Zapatista Resistance Training School hosted over 1,700 students from around the world to learn about the tactics used by the Zapatista’s. Given Jeh’s relationship to Prescilla (and based on her response to his posts regarding the training camp)…I can’t help but wonder how much help did Prescilla Settee (and not to be forgotten Idle No More, Sierra Club, Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives and the University of Saskatchewan) give Jeh to get to Zapatista training school? I guess the #SOVSUMMER was a good one for those who spent it at ‘camp’.
Idle No More … Where are you headed?
